Recently, I just got back from a trip to Charlotte to visit with my grandmother who is now 78 years old. For 78 years of age, she is still extremely independent and sharp as a tack. She has her own car, drives herself around, runs her errands and meets up with friends for lunch, etc. However, what I have noticed is that my grandmother does not do well with driving at night.

As you get older, it appears that we tend to trust ourselves less and less where better judgment is concerned. Nowhere is this more true than when we are behind the wheel of a car at night. My grandmother has admitted to me time and again that she does not feel comfortable driving her car at night. Even though her vision is perfect, she hesitates to drive herself anywhere when it is dark out and always makes sure that her plans revolve around daytime hours, leaving her plenty of time to turn in for the night before it gets dark out.

On one occasion, I was able to see what she was talking about when it came to driving during the nighttime hours. My uncle, who lives approximately three minutes from my grandmother had invited my boyfriend, my grandmother and I over for dinner at his house. I wasn’t sure of how to get to his house from where my grandmother lived at the time, and besides this, my grandmother had volunteered to drive us there. I didn’t argue, and I also didn’t think anything of it. So, off in the car we went. As soon as we pulled out from my grandmother’s parking space at her apartment complex, I was almost instantly nervous. She kept hesitating and braking, wanting to make sure that there was nothing behind her car. My boyfriend and I reassured her that there was nothing blocking her car, and eventually she put the car in drive, and we headed out of the apartment complex.

The entire time that we were driving to my uncle’s house, my grandmother kept braking for no reason, almost sending me through the windshield a couple of times. She didn’t really give an explanation for the constant braking, and I didn’t really ask because I could look over and see that she was trying very hard to focus. I kept glancing behind us at other drivers to make sure that they weren’t following us too closely because I was afraid that with all of the stop and start braking that someone would rear end us and get into an accident.

The three minutes that it should have taken us to get to my uncle’s house were the longest three minutes of my life in a vehicle. Towards the end of our dinner at my uncle’s house, I started to worry about the drive back to my grandmother’s apartment. Should I volunteer to drive us back to her apartment? I was worried that if I brought it up, I might offend my grandmother. At the same time, however, I didn’t want to offend my grandmother by suggesting such an idea. Later on, my grandmother admitted that driving at night made her nervous. I guess it is just something that happens as we age. The next time, though, I will be doing the driving!

Commuting to work is usually not a problem for some people. However, for other people, commuting to work can be a real pain and can ultimately ruin what would have been otherwise a bright, chipper start to their day.

I work from home, but when I used to commute to work, it was almost always a nightmare. The only times when I wouldn’t hit traffic was when I would leave super early in the morning to get to the office by 7 a.m. However, now that I don’t have to go to work, I have still seen the wrath of the morning commute when I go for runs or when I run out to complete errands. Miles and miles of traffic backed up on the highway is not an unusual sight to see when you are on the road. Things only feel worse when you know that you have to be somewhere at a certain time and you can’t get there because of traffic.

Recently, I had a doctor’s appointment. Because I had just moved into a new apartment, I was unsure of what time to leave in order to avoid traffic. I totally miscalculated the time that I should have left. Because there was construction going on right outside of my apartment complex, and because the road right outside of my apartment complex was sort of a major through way for morning commuters (which at the time, I did not know but I know now), it was backed up. In fact, it was so incredibly backed up, that I couldn’t even get out of my apartment complex! I wound up exiting my apartment complex via the second entrance in the back.

Things were going well for about a minute until I hit the other part of the morning rush hour traffic. Geez! I couldn’t even catch a break. I finally managed to make my way through most of the morning rush hour traffic and was approximately five minutes away from the doctor’s office when they called to tell me that I was running too late. The next appointment had already arrived, and they were going to have to cancel my appointment. Frustrated and angry, I conceded. I had spent almost an hour sitting in rush hour traffic for an appointment that normally would have taken me ten to fifteen minutes to get to. Needless to say, I was going to make sure that all of my future appointments for anything were going to be scheduled during non-rush hour times.

Commuting is not just a problem during designated rush hour times, though. In fact, because of the huge population boom in the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill area, I have found that traffic starting to become just as bad at any time of the day (save for between midnight and 3 a.m.). The most that we can do as drivers during this time is just be patient, take deep breaths, and most of all: make sure that we leave ourselves plenty of time to get to wherever it is we’re going!

Imagination is the backbone to the enjoyment of hobbies. We are drawn to particular hobbies because of what it inspires within us on a creative front. Not only is partaking in a hobby good for your creative side, it can also be incredibly relaxing. The act of doing and creating stimulates the brain and promotes feelings of calmness. Choosing a hobby that you enjoy doing is crucial for gaining the most from it. When you love something, you do a much better job at it and tend to apply yourself much deeper than if you were to force yourself into it.Many people use their hobbies specifically for relaxation. After a long day at the office, nothing feels as good as winding down with a project you truly care about. Some people find this comfort in such things as clay moulding or even baking. The creation of something that did not exist before stirs a sense of power and purpose within the creator. The use of the imagination in this way is one of the best ways to combat daily stress caused by work or family.Hobbies should definitely bring out the creativity within. It simply makes no sense to attempt a task that you have little personal interest in or one that you are not at all skilled in. The bottom line is that a hobby should be something you choose to do because you want to. Don’t allow others to pressure you into joining them with their hobby if it’s just not to your liking. Creativity cannot be forced.Though it is not recommended to throw yourself into something you have no interest in, it is a wise idea to locate others who do share your hobby. Most hobbies have groups associated with them. Consult your community services center to find out where you might find something related to your interests. Spending time with other hobby enthusiasts is great for the sharing of ideas, critiquing one another’s work and undertaking a group project together.Joining a hobby group can be tough, especially if the hobby you enjoy is not that popular or you live in a small town or rural area. For this reason the internet can be your go to guide for all things hobby related. Everything from writing to all forms of art work can be showcased online for those who wish to share their creations. Message boards allow one to speak with others about hobby related topics. Starting your own website is a great way to sell your craft if your hobby is artistically related.A hobby should be something that you do on a regular basis. It does wonders to calm and entertain. It only makes sense to integrate it into part of your day or week. Hobbies are rewarding and sadly, not enough people make time for them. Consider what it can do for both your mental health as well as the rest of the family. Get everyone involved with hobbies to increase imagination and make use of the creative gifts we all possess.

A great way to celebrate your favourite hobby is by hosting a party in honor of it. It might sound silly at first but this is something people already do quite often. Even a weekly poker game is similar to a hobby party. Get together with those you know that share the same hobby interests as you. If you have a hobby group, invite them over for a weekend get together or use it as away to start your own hobby group. Having a hobby party is fun on a variety of different levels.
Many people take great pleasure and joy in being the host or hostess of an elaborately planned event. If this is you, consider planning out an event that revolves around your hobby. It doesn’t matter what it is, use it as the theme of the party. If its art then have your guests bring their latest piece to show or if its books, everyone can bring their favourite book and discuss why it is so special to them. Lay out some finger food snacks like mini sandwiches and cookies. Brew some coffee and sit back to enjoy a good time with friends.
If you have a hobby group then it only makes sense to invite them to your hobby party. If you do not have a hobby group then this is a fantastic way to start one. Post an ad in your local paper or around your neighbourhood to let people know about your function. Chances are good that there will be someone out there that you have yet to meet who shares your hobby love. It’s also a great way to introduce yourself to neighbours you have not met yet and get to know some new people.
A hobby party can be a great theme for a children’s birthday party. It gives all of the kids something to focus on other than eating cake and making a mess. Get them to participate in some crafts, artwork or building model cars. Whatever hobby you choose, it can be a winner with the right preparation. You can even have a few different hobby stations set up for them to take part in. This allows each child to select which hobby they prefer and enjoy the most.
A barbecue can be the perfect setting for a hobby party. Choose a nice day and cook up some burgers on the grill while everyone mingles and chats about their favourite hobby. A hobby party doesn’t even have to be focused on just one type of hobby. It can be organized so that everyone is encouraged to bring along something that showcases their hobby and related skill, no matter what it is.
If having a party at home just doesn’t work for you or you live somewhere impossible like a small apartment, try renting a hall or local building for the day and have everyone meet there. It prevents your home from becoming cluttered and messy while being open to the public as well. Hosting a hobby party is a fun way to share what you love.

HOBBY stemmed from the time when people would ride a wooden horse as an actual pastime. Subsequently, the expression “to ride one’s hobby – horse” became known. It means, “to follow a favorite pastime”. In the modern times it is popularly called HOBBY.

There are various forms of hobby, collecting is one. The value of collecting involves purchasing or getting a hold of a particular item anchored in the fascination and inclination of the collector. These possessions are well categorized and beautifully showcased. The intensity and extensiveness of the collection may differ from one collector to another. Some collectors may focus on a very specific collection like old postal stamps of Manchester, coins from Bhutan, or antique diamond earrings set on platinum. Others may rather hold more common collection like antique furniture, jewelries, sports cards and the like. Sometimes there are people who collect experiences. They gather experiences of special kinds like when they travel. They may capture these experiences through videos or photos.

Games are also form of hobby. A game is a recreational activity carried out for pleasure, it is either partially or totally controlled. The target and the rules of the game create the challenge and structure. Games existed as far back as primeval age. Because of the enjoyment that games brought about – various selections of games were developed corresponding the unique interest of different individuals. There are several aspects to consider in determining what game should a person engage in. Age, intelligence level, stamina and personality are to be taken into account. The games and its rules vary as well as the involvedness of the participant in attaining the target. Games commonly entail physical as well as mental drive. Hence, they may well help people to be generally sound.

Outdoor recreation is another popular form of recreation. These are activities that are greatly dependent in the open air. Examples would be mountain climbing, trekking, rock climbing, and the like. While apparently relished by some as an adrenalin rush – it is very effective method in education and teambuilding. There are other hobbies that people enjoy – like cooking, gardening, painting composing, software developing etc.

Now what are hobbyists? Hobbyists make hobbies concrete. Hobbyists are people who are passionate about a specific material or an activity. They get captivated with anything that is associated with their hobby. Their collection ranges from magazines and books to different sorts of hobby equipments, gears and accessories. These possessions may well be meticulously arranged and stored in a room dedicated only for the stuff. Hobbyists are ready and willing to invest time and money for their hobbies. They avail of club memberships in places that they can frequent. They allocate a particular time to carry out their leisure pursuits. Their enthusiasm to learn and explore new things gave them a deeper understanding in the field.

Hobbyists are also categorized into different levels depending on the degree of their involvement in their hobbies. Level one is what we would call the Beginner. The Beginner would be someone who buys the “basics.” Basics would mean outfit, equipments and even instructional materials. He would watch the television and tune in to the channel that features his interest. He would start researching about the icons of that particular hobby. Icons could be a person, a team, brand of equipment and the like. He would also get himself familiar with the jargons of the hobby and start speaking them.

Level two would be the Mainstream hobbyist. He would be someone who is more familiar with the hobby. Meaning, he knows the “spots”. Spots could be the places where there are good finds and enjoyable facilities. The mainstream may already belong to a league of hobbyists that pursue the same interest as him. He is comfortable with the jargons of his hobby. He has won competitions. In other words, he is more intense in terms of equipments, knowledge and experience.

Finally, we have the Total hobbyist. The total hobbyist has an unyielding conviction in every aspect of the hobby. He has become an authority and an expert. He knows every detail of the hobby by heart. He could come up with a jargon that would indeed hit in his league. He has been the president of a national club or confederation if not one of the board of directors or the chairman of the board. He speaks in a national tournament and is considered an icon. He is someone who’s got nothing more to prove in terms of the depth of experience or possessions, yet still striving not only to improve himself but the industry as well.

However, there is a sheer wedge between profession and hobbies. A sport or an artistic interest may be a hobby to one person but a profession to another. A teacher may love to paint, while a painter may love to cook. People engage in hobbies to stimulate an interest and derive enjoyment from it as well. Hobby focuses more on self – fulfillment rather than financial return. The irony of it is that, it is easier to make a living out of a hobby than out of a profession. This is because hard work and fatigue is unnoticed when people love what they do. Some traders started from hobbying. Collectors who attempt to pull off a certain line of collection and build it up to integrate connected stuff then they trade in the items. Many of these merchants started as collectors themselves and then turned their hobby into a profession. Just like when games are carried out for the wage. Even creative hobbies can be a potential small business especially when people close to the hobbyist appreciate his work and start requesting to pay him just to own a piece of his work and intend it for a gift. As the appeal of an activity increases, the commercial ventures rise as well. There are a lot of hobby shops opening up in large numbers and thriving both on the local market and online.

Hobbyists and professionals may actually work out a fusion to attain a mutual advantage. Hobbyists and professionals can benefit and learn from each other’s ideas and experiences. But what matters is, that they could facilitate development in whatever field of interest they are engaged in. So what’s in a hobby? OPPORTUNITES! www.zerosightaccessories.com

We provide business opportunities to those who welcome them!
