Recently, I just got back from a trip to Charlotte to visit with my grandmother who is now 78 years old. For 78 years of age, she is still extremely independent and sharp as a tack. She has her own car, drives herself around, runs her errands and meets up with friends for lunch, etc. However, what I have noticed is that my grandmother does not do well with driving at night.

As you get older, it appears that we tend to trust ourselves less and less where better judgment is concerned. Nowhere is this more true than when we are behind the wheel of a car at night. My grandmother has admitted to me time and again that she does not feel comfortable driving her car at night. Even though her vision is perfect, she hesitates to drive herself anywhere when it is dark out and always makes sure that her plans revolve around daytime hours, leaving her plenty of time to turn in for the night before it gets dark out.

On one occasion, I was able to see what she was talking about when it came to driving during the nighttime hours. My uncle, who lives approximately three minutes from my grandmother had invited my boyfriend, my grandmother and I over for dinner at his house. I wasn’t sure of how to get to his house from where my grandmother lived at the time, and besides this, my grandmother had volunteered to drive us there. I didn’t argue, and I also didn’t think anything of it. So, off in the car we went. As soon as we pulled out from my grandmother’s parking space at her apartment complex, I was almost instantly nervous. She kept hesitating and braking, wanting to make sure that there was nothing behind her car. My boyfriend and I reassured her that there was nothing blocking her car, and eventually she put the car in drive, and we headed out of the apartment complex.

The entire time that we were driving to my uncle’s house, my grandmother kept braking for no reason, almost sending me through the windshield a couple of times. She didn’t really give an explanation for the constant braking, and I didn’t really ask because I could look over and see that she was trying very hard to focus. I kept glancing behind us at other drivers to make sure that they weren’t following us too closely because I was afraid that with all of the stop and start braking that someone would rear end us and get into an accident.

The three minutes that it should have taken us to get to my uncle’s house were the longest three minutes of my life in a vehicle. Towards the end of our dinner at my uncle’s house, I started to worry about the drive back to my grandmother’s apartment. Should I volunteer to drive us back to her apartment? I was worried that if I brought it up, I might offend my grandmother. At the same time, however, I didn’t want to offend my grandmother by suggesting such an idea. Later on, my grandmother admitted that driving at night made her nervous. I guess it is just something that happens as we age. The next time, though, I will be doing the driving!

Commuting to work is usually not a problem for some people. However, for other people, commuting to work can be a real pain and can ultimately ruin what would have been otherwise a bright, chipper start to their day.

I work from home, but when I used to commute to work, it was almost always a nightmare. The only times when I wouldn’t hit traffic was when I would leave super early in the morning to get to the office by 7 a.m. However, now that I don’t have to go to work, I have still seen the wrath of the morning commute when I go for runs or when I run out to complete errands. Miles and miles of traffic backed up on the highway is not an unusual sight to see when you are on the road. Things only feel worse when you know that you have to be somewhere at a certain time and you can’t get there because of traffic.

Recently, I had a doctor’s appointment. Because I had just moved into a new apartment, I was unsure of what time to leave in order to avoid traffic. I totally miscalculated the time that I should have left. Because there was construction going on right outside of my apartment complex, and because the road right outside of my apartment complex was sort of a major through way for morning commuters (which at the time, I did not know but I know now), it was backed up. In fact, it was so incredibly backed up, that I couldn’t even get out of my apartment complex! I wound up exiting my apartment complex via the second entrance in the back.

Things were going well for about a minute until I hit the other part of the morning rush hour traffic. Geez! I couldn’t even catch a break. I finally managed to make my way through most of the morning rush hour traffic and was approximately five minutes away from the doctor’s office when they called to tell me that I was running too late. The next appointment had already arrived, and they were going to have to cancel my appointment. Frustrated and angry, I conceded. I had spent almost an hour sitting in rush hour traffic for an appointment that normally would have taken me ten to fifteen minutes to get to. Needless to say, I was going to make sure that all of my future appointments for anything were going to be scheduled during non-rush hour times.

Commuting is not just a problem during designated rush hour times, though. In fact, because of the huge population boom in the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill area, I have found that traffic starting to become just as bad at any time of the day (save for between midnight and 3 a.m.). The most that we can do as drivers during this time is just be patient, take deep breaths, and most of all: make sure that we leave ourselves plenty of time to get to wherever it is we’re going!

There is a way to make your kitchen area, dining room area, family room, or even your patio area, more family friendly. When you make the addition of breakfast bar stools to your home, you are inviting the sharing of meals and social times.
Breakfast Bar Stools for Gatherings
Having a time to share a meal or even a cup of tea, with family members or friends, can be made easier with an area set aside for such occasions. When you make room for adding breakfast bar stools to your home, you are making room for sharing yourself, as well as your home.
Gathering for a nice meal, whether it be breakfast, lunch, or dinner, is what increases the closeness of a family. When a family shares a meal together, they talk to each other. When a family talks to each other, they include each other in the daily life they lead. When people are included in the daily life of another, relationship grows.
Gathering together with the ones you love, and sharing in family life, will be encouraged and enhance by having a comfortable place to sit together. Breakfast bar stools can be that comfortable place.
Breakfast Bar Stools in The Dining Room
If you have a dining room in your home, you may have a pass through, or a breakfast bar. Using that area to make a place to sit, with breakfast bar stools, will create a welcome feeling for all who enter the room. There is something about sitting on breakfast bar stools, that makes you feel at home.
Kids especially love to sit up high on breakfast bar stools, and enjoy the feeling of being up higher, and having a great view of the whole room.
When you have a place for everyone, everyone feels welcome.
If you are lacking seating space, and want to add some, breakfast bar stools can be that extra seating. They can be found in styles that make storing them easy, if you are short on space. Some of them can be folded up and stored in a closet or other area for storage, when not in use. There are also stackable breakfast bar stools, which can be stacked on top of each other easily, and stored when not in use. These options are wonderful if you need the extra seating, but only once in a while.
Breakfast Bar Stools For The Family Room
Breakfast bar stools may have been intended for the kitchen area, but using them in the family room is also an option.
Setting up a portable bar, or a permanent bar, will be one way to turn your family room into an all around entertainment room, complete with a place to serve food and drinks. There are portable bars available that will suit your needs, and used with breakfast bar stools that can be moved back to the kitchen when done using them, or stored in a closet.
Using your family room for all around entertaining will make having guests over much easier and more convenient.
Breakfast bar stools have many possibilities, and when you invest in your home by adding them, you will be glad you did.

Ever find yourself skipping breakfast? Whether it’s due to lack of time, attempts at weight loss, or because you just don’t have an appetite in the morning, you’ll want to read this article before you skip another breakfast!
I’m sure we’ve all heard it before: breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But is it really? Does skipping breakfast really make that much of a difference?
In short, yes, it does! Breakfast is so important, not only because it breaks the fast from between the time you eat dinner and when you get up (hence break-fast), working to jump start your metabolism, but because it also sets the tone for the day.
When you’re creating the time and energy for breakfast, you’re simultaneously honoring your body in that moment, sending yourself the message that it’s important to you that you prioritize eating and being healthy – and this will carry through the rest of the day. Try it and let me know how it works for you!
Consider these other reasons for taking the time to honor your body with a healthy breakfast:
What you choose or choose not to eat for breakfast can really impact your moods, your energy, your thinking, and your concentration for the day. Food is more than just nutrients, vitamins and minerals. It is also energy. Feel scatterbrained some days and completely grounded on others? Hint: what you eat may have more to do with it than you think.
Eating breakfast stimulates our metabolism by breaking the overnight fasting period and replenishing our body’s source of fuel. People who skip breakfast tend to snack and binge on less healthier items throughout the morning/early afternoon with whatever they can grab – be it a sugar-laden muffin at work, candy, or even soda. These foods are not only nutritionally deficient, they are often loaded with chemicals, empty calories, and wreak havoc on our thinking and performance throughout the day. It’s not unusual for the bingeing to carry through to lunch or dinner, as your body continues to compensate for the skipped breakfast meal. Ultimately, skipping breakfast hampers weight loss efforts in the long run.
What do you do if you just don’t feel hungry in the morning? Try having dinner earlier in the evening, and have a lighter meal. By morning, you should have an appetite. It may also take your body some getting used to at first. If you don’t have an appetite in the morning immediately, there’s no need to force yourself to have a big breakfast. Eating a combination of complex carbohydrates with a little protein, i.e. sprouted, whole grain toast with some almond butter, is perfectly fine.
Breakfast doesn’t necessarily require much time – it just requires preparation in advance, and waking up 15 minutes or so earlier in the morning to make. Take a half hour during the weekend, and stock up on a few different options for breakfast. How about some walnuts and bananas for your oatmeal, frozen berries for smoothies, or sweet potatoes for nice variation in your breakfast routine?
Keeping all the above points in mind before you go to bed tonight – what will you eat for breakfast tomorrow morning?
And be sure to note the difference in your energy, mood, focus and concentration!

When you wake up late for school or work, you usually forget what your mom told you about breakfast being the most important meal. It is called so because you have fasted for at least ten hours when you wake up counted from your last meal during the evening. Imagine how your body will respond to the activities and the regular functions of the body if you have already fasted for the last 10 hours and fast again for another six hours or less if you skip your breakfast. That would mean that you have not been eaten for more than half a day. Not many are aware that breakfast important to weight loss is not a myth.
Not just breakfast a first source of energy of the day, but it is important to maintain your calorie level. In fact, even when you try to control your calorie level, you should not go below the regular calorie intake, otherwise, you would be not be able to provide your body with the right nutrition that it needs to carry out its regular functions.
Studies show advantages of breakfast and prove that breakfast important to weight loss is a fact that is scientifically proven. Skipping breakfast makes your metabolic rate slow down and your blood sugar to drop. As a result of this, you become hungry and have less energy. This causes you to take impulsively snacks in the morning, often on high-fat sweets like chocolate bars, candies, or wafers. Or you may end up eating extra servings or bigger portions at lunch or dinner. By eating breakfast, you will feel nourished and satisfied making you avoid overeating for the rest of the day.
You do not have to spend special time preparing your breakfast as there are different ready to eat foods like cereal or oatmeal. Breakfast important to weight loss is a fact that you cannot do away since there are many evidences that proves to this statement. It does not even matter if you do not take a heavy meal on your breakfast, what is important is that you get the same nutrients and calories from the food that you eat like a regular breakfast.
